MIAMI, Fla. (July 25, 2019) – John Kunkel’s 50 Eggs, Inc. is pleased to announce that they are expanding the CHICA brand with a second location in Miami. CHICA by Lorena Garcia will open Fall 2019 in Miami’s historic MiMo district. The flagship location for the critically acclaimed CHICA by Lorena Garcia occupies a signature spot on Restaurant Row at The Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas and is regarded as the first Latina chef-owned restaurant on the Las Vegas Strip.

Located on Biscayne Boulevard and NE 4th Court in the iconic space formerly occupied by Soyka restaurant, the Miami incarnation of CHICA by Lorena Garcia will transport guests through Latin America, featuring the robust and vibrant flavors of authentic regional dishes.  Celebrating a rich blend of native ingredients and techniques that are forever weaved into our American history and palate -- from Venezuela, Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Peru, and more – CHICA will pay homage to each culinary tradition all in one dynamic environment. From the wood-fire grill to the traditional plancha and rotisserie for the signature Meyer Lemon Chicken, a combination of family traditions and passions will unite guests around the table and deliver a legacy of culinary delights.  The atmosphere will be musically charged with Latin beats while a lively bar scene will feature cocktails and fine spirits from a regionally inspired curated beverage program, as well as a wine inventory that emphasizes historical ties to old world wines with a focus on female winemakers.

Opening CHICA in Miami is a genuine return home for Garcia, who lives in Miami and went to school in South Florida. “My heart is pounding with excitement to bring CHICA to my hometown of Miami, where it all started for me,” says Garcia. “The city truly represents the melting pot of Latin culture and cuisine in America that John and his talented team at 50 Eggs and I aimed to celebrate when we first created the CHICA concept.” Garcia continues, “I am passionate about sharing the fresh, seasonal produce from different regions, the vibrant ingredients and authentic recipes of this style of elevated, yet approachable Latin American food, and I am ecstatic to share it with a community where I believe it will resonate so strongly.”

“Bringing CHICA to Miami is the natural next step for us,” says Kunkel. “The concept has been doing great in Las Vegas and we’re confident that it will do the same here in Miami.  This new location is going to be one of the hottest new places to go!  We’re going to have an amazing bar and wine program, of course amazing food by Chef Lorena, and a few other unique things I don’t want to reveal just yet.”

The Miami restaurant’s forward-thinking design will be directed by Rockwell Group, a New York-based hospitality design firm focused on high-end brands such as Jose Andres Think Food Group, NOBU Hospitality and Andaz Hotels, among other luxury-level clientele. Décor in the 10,000-square-foot space will draw influence from Latin American colors and textures such as handmade tiles, bright accents and colonial-style ironwork.

In 2017, Garcia joined like-minded friend, Kunkel, of 50 Eggs, Inc. (Yardbird, Spring Chicken and newly opened Coral Gables modern-American restaurant, AD LIB) to open the original CHICA by Lorena Garcia in Las Vegas.  Joining the ranks of world-class chefs at The Venetian, like Thomas Keller and Emeril Lagasse, Garcia has garnered excellent reviews for CHICA in Las Vegas from Bon Appetit and other top media outlets and was also awarded with Wine Spectator’s “Award of Excellence” in 2018.

Garcia’s life as a chef, author, entrepreneur, media personality and restaurateur has been a celebration of the cooking and passion for food that she grew up with in her native Caracas, Venezuela, combined with the international experience and culinary techniques she amassed as a young chef working in some of the world’s finest restaurants in Europe and beyond. As one of the country's top celebrity chefs best known for her television roles on Top Chef MastersAmerica’s Next Great Restaurant, and multiple shows on Telemundo and Univision, Garcia has also published two bestselling cookbooks.
